Agentic AI in Marketing: What Changes When the Agent Can Run the Campaign

By Morgan FavierSeptember 8, 20268 min read

Summary

  • Agentic AI in marketing means an AI agent does the work inside the platform: builds a campaign, prices it, launches it, and reports on it, through an interface built for agents rather than for clicking.
  • Most marketing tools that say AI mean a chatbot bolted onto a dashboard. The test is whether your own agent can operate the platform, not just theirs.
  • Oppizi made offline marketing agent-addressable in both directions: connect Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor to the Oppizi MCP, or use Copilot inside Oppizi OS. Both run on Soleon, our agent infrastructure.
  • Every campaign an agent builds stops at In Review. A person approves before anything prints, mails, or spends.

Every marketing tool announced an AI feature this year. Most of them added a chat window to a dashboard that works exactly as it did before. Gartner estimates only about 130 of the thousands of vendors calling themselves agentic AI providers are genuinely agentic, and labels the rest "agent washing," or chatbots and RPA in a new coat.

That is worth being precise about, because the difference between a chat window and an agentic platform is the difference between asking software a question and asking software to do the job.

Offline marketing is where this gets interesting, because it is the channel everyone assumed could not be automated. Print has vendors. Mail has USPS rules. Flyering has people walking streets. It looked like the last place software would eat.

What is agentic AI in marketing?

Agentic AI in marketing is software whose capabilities are exposed to AI agents as actions they can take, rather than information they can read. An agent connected to it can assemble a campaign, get a price, submit it for launch, and pull performance back, through an interface designed for machines rather than for a person clicking through screens.

The platform on the other end of that connection is what Oppizi calls an agentic offline marketing platform: the whole offline stack made agent-ready rather than one feature bolted on.

The word that matters is actions. A platform that lets an AI summarise your dashboard is a reporting feature. A platform where an agent creates the campaign is agentic.

Three levels of AI in marketing software

Useful for telling the categories apart when every vendor uses the same words.

LevelWhat it doesWhat you can ask of it
AssistiveA chat window that answers questions about the product"How do I set up a campaign?"
CopilotAn assistant inside the product that performs tasks for you"Set up the campaign for me"
Agent-addressableThe platform itself is exposed to any agent, including yours"Set it up from my own assistant, or from my code"

Most tools sit at level one. A growing number reach level two. Level three is rare, because it requires exposing the whole platform as an interface an agent can drive safely, which is a different engineering problem from adding a chat panel.

What agentic looks like when the channel is physical

Oppizi runs direct mail, package inserts, and flyering. Four everyday jobs are now a conversation.

Build. Describe the campaign in natural language or code. Your agent assembles targeting, channels, and creative through the Oppizi MCP. It attaches your design, sets the launch date, and checks the campaign is ready.

Price. Instant quotes for flyer distribution and EDDM, plus a live estimate of the campaign as it is being assembled. "What would this cost?" and "set it up" happen in the same breath, rather than in two tools a day apart.

Execute. Launch across direct mail, inserts, and flyering in every market Oppizi operates, without leaving your agent.

Track. Pull scans, reach, conversions, CVR, revenue, and ROI back into your assistant in real time, sliced by week, city, creative, and A/B variant. No report building. You can also record conversions back to Oppizi, so your own reporting agents read campaign results alongside your revenue data.

Two ways in, one foundation

Connect your own agent. The Oppizi MCP works with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and any MCP-capable assistant, over the open Model Context Protocol standard. Connecting is a one-click single sign-in with no API keys to hand out or rotate. Everything the assistant can do is also available as a plain REST API, authenticated with your Oppizi client key, if you would rather call it from your own apps. Full reference, SDKs, and the OpenAPI spec are at developer.oppizi.com.

Use ours. Copilot is the AI assistant built into Oppizi OS. It answers in plain language right where you are working, guides you through setup step by step, and hands off to a human when it cannot help. It will not make things up, because every answer is grounded in Oppizi's knowledge base.

The reason both matter: your agency has its own stack, your engineers have their own tools, and your marketers live in the platform. Agent-addressable means all three get the same capability without a new login.

What is Soleon?

Soleon is Oppizi's proprietary agent infrastructure, and it is the layer both routes run on. An enterprise AI agent ecosystem, it lets you build, deploy, monitor, and govern AI agents securely with no code required, connected to your own apps, data, and knowledge. It is model-agnostic, cloud-agnostic, and can run in your own cloud account.

That matters here because the Oppizi MCP and Copilot are two front doors onto the same infrastructure. Same account, same data, same pricing engine, same In Review gate, whichever way you come in. It also means the physical constraints of offline get encoded once, in one place, and every agent that touches the platform respects them.

The control question

The first objection to any of this is the right one. What stops an AI from spending your money.

Every campaign stops at In Review. An agent can build it, price it, and submit it. A person on your team approves before anything prints, mails, or charges. Nothing launches automatically, and the assistant never handles payment.

Access works the same way. Connecting an assistant is a single sign-in, so there are no API keys circulating that you have to remember to rotate.

That is the trade that makes agentic acceptable in a channel with real production costs: agents do the assembly, humans keep the launch.

What is live today

Worth being straight about, because "agentic" is a word a lot of companies are using ahead of the product. In a McKinsey survey, 78% of organizations use AI in at least one business function, yet more than 80% report no material impact on enterprise-level earnings from generative AI.

  • Live in production now: connecting an assistant, pulling performance, checking pricing.
  • Enabled per account: campaign creation through an agent. Contact Oppizi to switch it on.
  • Two campaign types creatable this way: addressed direct mail to your own list, and every door direct mail across the postal routes you choose.
  • Copilot is in beta inside Oppizi OS with selected accounts.

Why offline was the hard part

Digital channels were always going to be automated first. They are made of the same material as the software controlling them.

Offline is not. A direct mail campaign touches a print vendor, USPS route data, carrier route minimums, artwork specifications, lead times, and in flyering, people walking a city with a stack of paper in their hands. Every one of those is a place where an automated instruction meets a physical constraint.

Making that agent-addressable meant encoding the constraints, not hiding them. When an agent picks EDDM routes through Oppizi, it is checking residence minimums and lead times as it goes. When it quotes a price, it is the real quote from the same engine the dashboard uses.

Brands run real performance on this: a 4.4% average response rate and 161% median ROI across campaigns, with field teams in over 12 countries. The agentic layer does not change what makes offline work. It removes the two weeks of coordination between deciding to run a campaign and having one ready to go.

Offline always worked. It just could not prove it, and it could not move at software speed. Making the whole platform agent-addressable is how we close the second gap. Your agent, or ours, can do the work. A person still says go.

Frequently asked questions

What is agentic marketing technology?

Agentic marketing technology exposes a marketing platform's capabilities to AI agents as actions they can perform, rather than information they can read. An agent can build a campaign, price it, submit it, and pull results back. The distinction from an AI chat feature is that the agent operates the platform rather than describing it.

What is offline marketing software?

Offline marketing software plans, launches, and measures physical marketing channels: direct mail, every door direct mail, package inserts, flyering, and door hangers. Oppizi runs all of them in one platform with per-piece tracking, so offline campaigns are held to the same measurement standard as paid digital.

Which offline marketing platforms have AI features?

Most offline and direct mail platforms now offer some AI, usually creative generation or a chat assistant. Fewer are agent-addressable, meaning your own AI assistant can operate the platform. Oppizi exposes the whole platform through an MCP that works with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and any MCP-capable assistant, plus a REST API.

How can AI automate direct mail marketing?

AI can assemble the campaign: select carrier routes or audiences, attach creative, check USPS requirements and lead times, return a live quote, and submit for launch. With Oppizi it happens in your own assistant or in Copilot, and every campaign stops at In Review so a person approves before anything prints or mails.

Can AI agents run marketing campaigns end to end?

Not safely, and Oppizi does not let them. Agents handle the assembly: targeting, pricing, creative, dates, submission. Every campaign then halts at an In Review state where a person on your team approves it. Nothing prints, mails, or charges without human sign-off, and the agent never touches payment.

What is the best AI tool for offline marketing?

It depends whether you want an assistant inside a platform or one that connects to your own. Oppizi offers both: Copilot inside Oppizi OS, and an MCP that connects Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor to the same capabilities. Single-channel tools tend to add creative AI rather than campaign execution.
